Katie's story took a surprising change in 2014, when she made a comeback to compete at her first Rio Olympic Games. Katie was diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism on the right side of her lung. The diagnosis ended Katie's professional career. Since her diagnosis, Katie has dedicated herself to the cause of advocacy through the National Blood Clot Alliance. Additionally, she is an author who has sold millions of books as well as an entrepreneur. This allows her to meet with young athletes around the world.
